A potentially entertaining Serie A contest could be on the cards this weekend as a high-spirited Empoli look to maintain their form against struggling Verona.

The hosts come into this weekend's Serie A encounter having endured a largely miserable run of results in the past couple of months. Paulo Zanetti´s side lost six of their last seven matches with a 3:2 win against Roma the only bright note in an otherwise disastrous run for the hosts.

Fourteen games into their Serie A campaign, Verona now find themselves just one point clear of the relegation zone. 

While wins have been hard to come by, high-scoring outcomes have become the norm at Stadio Marc'Antonio Bentegodi. Verona saw at least three goals scored in 13 of their last 15 home Serie A games including each of the last ten!

Empoli make the trip to Verona in high-spirits after a thrilling victory against Fiorentina in the Coppa Italia earlier this week. The Azzurri Empolesi edged into the quarter-finals via penalty shootout after a 2:2 draw in Florence. 

Roberto D'Aversa´s side have enjoyed a positive campaign domestically. While winless in eight of their last nine Serie A matches, they remain inside the top-half of the division in 10th spot. 

High-scoring outcomes have been less frequent for Empoli but with Verona so consistent in that market, I'm taking a chance on the over 2.5 goal line on Sunday.
