  • Competition: Copa America, Quarter-Finals
  • Date: Saturday, 6th July, 2024
  • Kickoff: 02:00 UTC +1 / 03:00 CEST
  • Venue: AT&T Stadium (Arlington,USA)

On the night between Friday and Saturday, Venezuela and Canada will face off against each other in the Copa America Quarter-Finals at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, USA.

Venezuela are #37 on the FIFA World Ranking List and #5 in the South America Region. They have never appeared in the World Cup and have had very little success in Copa America. However, it seems they are on the rise. In the ongoing World Cup Qualifiers, they are doing great and are 4th and on a good course of securing their first World Cup. In the Copa America, Venezuela surprisingly won group B with Mexico, Ecuador, and Jamaica while winning all three games. So, the team's morale is undoubtedly high before the knockout phase.

Canada have secured the Quarter-finals in its first Copa America appearance. Before this Copa America, they were either ineligible or did not qualify for the previous tournaments. They had a really rough group with Argentina, Chile, and Peru but secured 2nd place with four points. However, the bookies aren't giving them too many chances to win the title as they have the biggest odds of winning, with odds around 40.

Venezuela vs Canada pick: Under 2.5 goals

Venezuela impressed with six scored goals in the first three games in Copa America. However, they are not a team that scores a lot, and we believe these games were an anomaly. In the previous World Cup, they scored only one goal per game in six games and were under 2.5 goals in five of those six matches. In all competitions in around a year (friendlies included), Venezuela were under 2.5 goals in 11 of 15 games - 73%.

Canada played only low-scoring games in this Copa America and were under 2.5 goals in all three games. Their offense really buckled, scoring only one goal - 0.33 per match! What is even worse, they had one player more against Chile and Peru and still struggled to score. So, we do not expect a great offensive performance. However, their defense was on point as they only allowed two goals against Argentina in those three matches and should do well against Venezuela.

Both teams' defenses were impressive in the Copa America, keeping clean sheets in two of three games in the Group stage. Considering that and all the above, we believe an under 2.5 goals bet should be the safest option for the upcoming game.

Venezuela team news

Darwin Machis, the team's starting attacking winger, received his second yellow card against Jamaica and will serve his one-game suspension against Canada. With him suspended, we expect Yeferson Soteldo to start on the left side.

On the other hand, coach Fernando Batista served his one-game suspension in the previous match against Jamaica and will be on the bench. The Argentine coach was suspended because his team appeared ten minutes late for the Mexico game.

Canada team news

After securing the Quarter Finals, coach Marsch spoke to the media. He was satisfied but pointed out they scored only one goal and are trying to find ways to be more proficient in attack. The coach also said they are a well-rounded team and that the discipline is on point. When asked about the Venezuela game, the coach said: "It's gonna be a dogfight. It's a team that has talent and physicality and plays with a lot of tactical discipline. It will be very hard to score against."
