Venezuela and Argentina meet in Monagas on Thursday night in CONMEBOL qualifying for the 2026 World Cup, with Leonel Messi and Co looking to continue their fine start to the competition.
The hosts were not able to replicate the form that took them to the Copa America quarter finals during the September international break. Fernando Batista’s side began the last international break with a humiliating 4-0 defeat to Bolivia and also failed to find the back of the net in their subsequent game, drawing goalless with Uruguay. Considering that La Vinotinto also failed to score in two of their last three meetings with the Argentinians, things could get worst this week.
Argentina meanwhile have done almost everything right since winning the World Cup. Lionel Scaloni’s men conceded defeat in just two of their 22 games since the final in Qatar, registering a record number of 19 wins. The Blue and Whites also lifted the Copa America trophy in that spell and currently sit top of the standings in Qualifying for the 2026 World Cup.
Venezuela vs Argentina Betting Tips: Over 2.5 goals
While Venezuela have failed to score in each of their last two matches, their scoring record against the Argentinian national team isn’t too bad, with Fernando Batista’s men scoring a total of eight goals over the course of the last seven meetings between the two nations. Bets on over 2.5 goals were won in five of those encounters and I expect a similar result on Thursday.
- Best Tip: Over 2.5 goals
- Venezuela vs Argentina prediction: 1-3

Venezuela team news
Daniel Pereira Gil is in the squad name by head coach Fernando Batista for this month’s encounter with Argentina and Paraguay.
Pereira made his fifth appearance for Venezuela in the defeat to Bolivia back in September, playing 58 minutes and the 24-year-old will be hoping to start in the middle of the park on Thursday.

Argentina team news
Lionel Messi is back in the Argentina national team squad after missing the September international break due to an ankle injury.
The 37-year-old returns to the squad after winning another trophy, this time with Inter Miami after the week over Philladelphia Union in the MLS and should be in the XI on Thursday.
Other big names in the squad named by boss Lionel Scaloni are Paulo Dybala, Lautaro Martínez, Alejandro Garnacho, Julián Álvarez, Alexis Mac Allister, Enzo Fernández and Lisandro Martínez.
