This year's Gulf Cup edition was surprising. In group A, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar, the two teams that expected to finish in two of the best places in the group, picked up only one point after two rounds. However, in the deciding round, both sides will have a chance to overthrow Kuwait and Oman from the two top spots. 

United Arab Emirates have two titles at the Gulf Cup (from 2007 and 2013). Football is on the rise in the country, and they even hope to play in the World Cup in 2026. The United Arab Emirates opened the Gulf Cup with a 1-1 draw against Qatar, but after that, surprisingly lost 2-1 against the tournament hosts, Kuwait. Paulo Bento's team finished with 11 shots on the goal, more than the opponent, but still lost the game. 

Oman also have two Gulf Cup titles (from 2009 and 2018/19). They opened this year's tournament with a 1-1 draw against Kuwait, while three days later, Oman won 2-1 against Qatar. Oman are in a good position ahead of the last round, as they need at least one point to progress to the knockout phase.
