Two nations separated by just one point in Group G of the African 2026 World Cup Qualifiers meet on Monday evening as Uganda host Algeria.

Uganda are searching for their first ever FIFA World Cup qualification, while the Algerians have not qualified for the last two editions.

The hosts kicked off their qualifying campaign on a bad note, losing 2-1 to Guinea but their response has been sublime. Paul Put’s side boast two wins from their last two encounters in G and didn’t concede a goal in both games. This run has seen the Cranes climb up the table to third and should they beat the Algerians and other results go their way, Uganda could go top of the group.

Algeria has not fared well at major tournaments in recent years, and that’s surprising given the amount of talents within the squad. The Desert Foxes failed to step up to the plate in the African Cup of Nations in January, getting eliminated in the group stage, and that was after they missed out on the World Cup. However, their performances in the WC qualifiers have been somewhat good, with the team sitting top in Group G.

Having won each of their last two qualifiers without conceding, Uganda will be looking to fly out of the blocks and begin as they have the chance to go on top of the group. Beating Algeria is easier said than done, considering that the hosts lost each of their last four meetings with the Desert Foxes.

Algeria boast a significantly superior and more experienced squad, and while we expect Uganda to put up a fight, I fancy the away side to travel back to El Djazaïr with all three points.
