Tranmere will look to create more breathing room from the relegation zone when they host mid-table Cheltenham at Prenton Park in round 39 of England’s League Two on Friday.
In what turned out to be a dull and lifeless contest with no clear goal-scoring chances, Tranmere had to settle for a point apiece in their goaless stalemate at Fleetwood on Saturday, a result that helped them widen the gap over relegation-threatened Morecambe to a reassuring seven points.
Cheltenham's hopes of finishing the season in the playoff zone suffered a setback in Saturday's lunchtime action, as they stumbled to a 1-0 defeat against the lower-ranked Milton Keynes Dons in front of their home crowd, leaving them with a daunting nine-point gap to make up in the race for a top-seven spot.
Tranmere vs Cheltenham Betting Tips : TRANMERE TO WIN
Although Cheltenham holds a much higher position in the standings than Friday's hosts heading into League Two's matchday 39, it's hard to believe that it will be enough of a trump card for them, given their recent struggles to grind out results. The hard-fought 2-1 away victory over Wimbledon on March 11, achieved in the late stages, remains Cheltenham's onlw success in their previous seven League Two outings, with three of those ending in disappointment. The ugly run of results that has plagued the Rovers will be music to the ears of a Tranmere side that looks completely revitalized since Andrew Crosby took over on an interim basis, as the Robins are yet to lose under his guidance with two wins and three draws. In what should be an open contest with the nets rippling at both ends between two sides hungry for victory, we believe Tranmere will showcase greater firepower and come out on top in Friday’s clash, which would also bring an end to Cheltenham’s three-game winning run in their direct duels.
