- Competition: AFCON Qualifiers
- Date: Sunday, 17th, November 2024
- Kickoff: 16:00 UK / 17.00 CET
- Venue: Stade de Kegue (Lome)
Looking to end their AFCON qualification campaign on a positive note, already-eliminated Togo will host Equatorial Guinea at Stade de Kegue on Sunday.
Midweek disappointment struck the Togo national team as they fell to a 1-0 away defeat against Liberia, extinguishing their hopes of making the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and marking their fourth failed qualifying bid in a row. After earning only two points from their five qualifying fixtures, the Sparrowhawks are now mathematically out of the race for Morocco next year, with a six-point deficit to the second-place team. Nonetheless, Nibombe’s team will look to exit this campaign with dignity.
In contrast, Equatorial Guinea put on a brilliant defensive display on Thursday, and their efforts were rewarded as they successfully kept group leaders Algeria at bay, resulting in a scoreless draw in a match lacking excitement. That applaud-worthy result earned the National Thunder their eighth point overall, four ahead of third-placed Liberia with one match still to play, effectively sealing second place in Group E and a spot in the main tournament for the third consecutive edition.
Togo vs Equatorial Guinea Betting Tips: DRAW
The standings in Group E are almost final as the last 90 minutes tick down, making their direct meeting irrelevant in terms of competition, yet both teams are keen to steer clear of failure as they close out the AFCON qualifiers. Togo’s chances of rounding off their qualification campaign with a win are low, given their recent struggles to secure victories, having won only once in their last 10 games in any competition. With three draws to their name, including impressively holding powerhouse Senegal to a 1-1 stalemate, the recent home games offer Dare Nibombe’s team a sense of positivity as they head back to familiar ground.
However, beating Equatorial Guinea will be far from a walk in the park, as they are currently on the rise, having gone unbeaten in their last four outings, winning two and drawing two. Another sign pointing to a hard-fought encounter here is the fact that each of the last three H2H matchups between these national teams ended without a winner, with one of those coming in the reverse fixture of the AFCON qualifiers, where they shared the points in a thrilling 4-goal spectacle. Ultimately, we believe Togo is destined for a winless campaign, as it’s hard to envision them finding a path to victory against National Thunder, who have proven to be a tough nut to crack, making a draw the most sensible outcome.

Togo team news
Estoril Praia center-back Kevin Boma's chances of making Togo's squad for the final day of AFCON qualifiers look slim, as he was substituted early in the second half against Liberia due to injury.
With Boma's availability still uncertain, head coach Dare Nibombe may opt to include experienced Djene from Getafe in the defensive trio, while the other positions are likely to remain unchanged.

Equatorial Guinea team news
In addition to showing excellent defensive resilience in holding Algeria to a goalless draw, Equatorial Guinea comes through unscathed, meaning they will have a full squad available for Sunday’s final-day clash.
Having already sealed second place in Group E and the automatic qualification for the tournament in Morocco next year, coach Juan Micha is likely to make a few adjustments to his lineup.
