Even though Switzerland lacks some accolades from big tournaments, they have appeared regularly in them and did fairly well. In the last three World Cups, they reached the top 16, and in the previous two EUROs, they reached the top 16 and top eight. This time, they are once again looking like a pretty good team and are on the brink of securing the knockout phase. They are 2nd in the group with four points, three away from the 3rd-placed Scotland. In order to drop to 3rd place, Switzerland needs to lose, and Scotland needs to win and overcome a current six-goal deficit. On the other hand, with a potential win over Germany, Switzerland would secure first place and have a much easier path in the knockout phase, at least in theory.
Germany, one of the best national teams in the world, and this year's EURO hosts are one of the primary candidates for the title. In recent years, they failed to win silverware, but that could change this year because they look like one of the best teams in EURO so far. Even though they secured the next phase, we believe they will go for that first place. Then, they would play against the 2nd-placed team from Group C, which is likely to be Denmark, Slovenia, or Serbia. If they end up 2nd, they could face teams like Spain, Croatia, or Italy, depending on the results in the remaining games.
Switzerland vs Germany pick: Germany to win
Switzerland won their opening game 3:1 against Hungary and drew 1:1 against Scotland in a game in which two goals were canceled by VAR. They are definitely a good, experienced team that could have easily had a maximum of six points now. Still, the impression is that they lack the quality to compete with the best teams in the world. While they had a good run so far in EURO, we could see them struggle in the Qualifiers against much weaker teams than Germany, and it is hard to expect a positive result against the Germans.
Germany looked great in the first two games, especially in the opening game, where they simply dominated Scotland and won 5:1. Yes, they had a player more for more than half, but they were fantastic even before the red card. Even though many football pundits are not convinced in this year's squad, the blend of young and old players is looking great for now.
Considering what we have seen from these teams, we believe that Germany is a better team and should secure their third victory in the EURO.
