- Competition: Liga Portugal
- Date: Monday, 7th April, 2025
- Kickoff: 20:45 UK / 21:45 CET
- Venue: Estádio José Alvalade (Lisbon)
On Monday evening, two of the best Portuguese teams, Sporting CP and Braga, will face off in the 28th Liga Portugal round at Estádio José Alvalade in Lisbon.
Sporting had an interesting year. From a team that looked fantastic under coach Ruben Amorim to a pretty poor one when the mentioned coach left. However, they found their rhythm lately and started playing great once again. Now, they are on a six-game winning streak and are at the top of the league's table with 65 points from 27 rounds. However, they are on level with points with second-placed Benfica and will have to keep winning points to stay there.
Braga have been Portugal's third or fourth-best team for over a decade. This year, the situation looks pretty much the same - they are fourth with 56 points from 27 rounds but on a level with points with FC Porto. With seven rounds to go, it is almost certain that they will finish either third or fourth, as they are nine points away from second place and ten away from fifth place.
Sporting CP vs Braga pick: Sporting CP to win and cover the -1 AH spread
Sporting CP has been a pretty dominant team in the domestic league this season, winning 20 out of 27 games - 74%. At home, that number is even higher - 85% (11 out of 13)! Additionally, ten of those 11 wins were by two or more goals. Also, Sporting CP are red-hot, winning six in a row while covering the -1.5 spread on five occasions.
Braga are in good form as well, winning three in a row. However, away from home, they had some rough games. In the last four matches, they only won against SC Farense 1:0. Against good teams both in the domestic competitions and EL, they really struggled and should struggle against Sporting CP as well.
In the last h2h game, Sporting won 4:2. Additionally, Sporting CP won the last three h2h games at home, every time by 5:0! Considering the trend at Estádio José Alvalade and all the above, we believe Sporting CP should secure a comfortable home win over Braga.

Sporting CP team news
After a 2:0 win in the previous game against Rio Ave, coach Rui Borges spoke to the media. He said they were a better team overall and were dominant for 90-95 minutes of the game. The coach also said they created many good goalscoring chances and could have finished the job in the first tie. Still, he noted he is happy with the teams' performance regardless of the missed chances.
Maximiliano Araujo and Morten Hjulmand served their one-game suspensions in the previous league game and will be available. On the other hand, Joao Simoes, Nuno Santos, Hidemasa Morita, Pedro Goncalves, and Daniel Braganca, who missed the previous games with injuries, should remain sidelined.

Braga team news
After a 2:1 win over Arouca, coach Carlos Carvalhal spoke to the media. He said they played a very good first half where they scored two goals. In the second half (and especially in the last half an hour of the game), they struggled to press up, and Arouca started playing better. The coach concluded that they were a better team and deservedly won.
When it comes to injuries, the players who missed the previous match(es) should remain sidelined - Roger Fernandes and Fran Navarro.
