Shamrock Rovers are the biggest club in the Republic of Ireland. In recent years they were really dominant, winning four league titles in a row. However, this season is not going according to plan. The Rovers currently hold 4th place with 31 points, a whopping 15 points away from first place. In fact, there is a big question mark as to whether they will manage to secure European Qualifiers since they have only a point advantage over 5th-placed Galway and have played one game more. Unfortunately for the Rovers, they are in terrible form, and if they don't change something soon, they could miss Europe for the first time since the 2009/10 season.
Dundalk's golden years between 2013 and 2019 are looking miles away. During that time, they won five league titles and were runner-up in the remaining two seasons. However, they are constantly declining, and this season is by far their worst one in a very long time. They are 9th with 19 points in 22 points, which leads to a relegation playout. They are only three points away from direct relegation and six away from the safe zone, although with two games played more. So, they are in a really tough situation and desperately need points.
Shamrock Rovers vs Dundalk pick: Under 2.5 goals
Shamrock Rovers are in really poor form, with three losses in the last four games. Looking further back, the Rovers only won two games in the previous nine while scoring only eight goals - not even a goal per match. So, we do not expect a dominant offensive display against a team which desperatly need points.
With just 13 scored goals in 22 rounds - 0.6 per game, Dundalk are by far the worst offensive team in the league. They have been even worse offensively in the recent three games, as they only scored once. Because of a poor offense, Dundalk were under 2.5 goals in 73% of their games (16 out of 22).
Additionally, these teams play almost exclusively low-scoring games in their h2h meetings. In the last six games, they were under 2.5 goals on all six occasions, with an average of only 1.5 goals per game.
Considering all the above, an under 2.5 goals bet should be the best option for this Premier Division tie.

Dundalk team news
Dara Keane, Jamie Gullan, and Mayowa Animasahun, who missed the previous games with injuries, will most likely remain sidelined.
Meanwhile, the club decided to let go of goalkeeper George Shelvey on July 1st. Earlier this season, he was their first option but was given a ten-game suspension because of racism/discrimination. That was the longest ban in the Premier Division history and the main reason why he and the club decided to split.
