Two relegation candidates in the French top flight meet on Saturday night as Saint Étienne welcome Rennes to Geoffroy-Guichard.
Saint Étienne made a dream start to the 2025 calendar year. Les Verts came from a goal down at half-time to beat Reims 3-1 at this ground, but they have since been a shadow of themselves. Eirik Horneland's side go into Saturday's game on a four-game winless streak that includes a damaging 4-1 defeat at the hands of Lille last weekend.
Rennes, meanwhile, visited Strasbourg last weekend hoping to end a dreaded five-game losing streak. The visitors left it late before grabbing all three points thanks to an 89th minute goal from French professional Ludovic Blas. The win lifted Rennes above the relegation zone and Habib Beye's side now hold two-point advantage over the bottom three.
Saint-Étienne vs Rennes Betting Tips: Both teams to score
While Saint Étienne are winless in four games, they are still scoring goals with the hosts having scored in all of their last six games and I expect them to extend that run. Not to mention that the main reason for their lack of success is their defence. Les Verts have not kept a clean sheet in ten games and conceded an average of two goals a game in the four home games played during that period.
Rennes are also in good form offensively, having scored in all of their last six French top-flight games. Both teams scored in four of those encounters and I expect a similar result on Saturday.

Rennes team news
Alidu Seidu and Doğan Alemdar are unavailable for Rennes this weekend with the pair struggling with cruciate ligament injuries.
Head coach Habib Beye is expected to resist the temptation to make changes to the side that was on the pitch from kickoff in the win over Strasbourg last weekend.
