Looking to open their Euro 2024 accounts on a strong note, Romania and Ukraine will lock horns in their opening match at the Allianz Arena on Monday afternoon.

Romania vs Ukraine Betting Tips: UKRAINE TO WIN

After an eight-year absence, Romania are returning to the grand continental stage thanks to an exceptional qualifying campaign in which they remained unscathed (W6 D4), with a narrow 1-0 victory over Switzerland in the final match sent them to the top of their section.

Since doing a great job in qualifying, the Tricolours' preparations for this summer's tournament haven't gone as planned, failing to win in any of their four matches in 2024, with their last two warm-up games setting off alarm bells.

More precisely, their lack of a finishing touch in front of goal has hindered them from building morale-boosting results ahead of EURO, as evidenced by squandering a penalty in a scoreless draw against Bulgaria, followed by another stalemate with minnows Liechtenstein despite firing off 35 shots.

Compared to their curtain-raising counterparts, Ukraine had to navigate a tougher playoff path to punch their ticket to this summer's tournament, as they were unable to overcome Italy in a goalless draw on the final matchday of the group stage to finish qualifying in third place.

Their journey to a fourth consecutive appearance at the European Championship has been nothing short of sensational, as the Blue and Yellows pulled off eye-catching comebacks against Bosnia-Herzegovina and Iceland to emerge victorious 2-1 in both playoff battles.

Unlike the other participants in the tournament taking place on German soil, Ukraine have had three warm-up matches in June, and after successfully holding Euro 2024 hosts to a nil-nil draw and suffering a tough 1-3 defeat to Poland, Rebrov's men boosted their confidence with a 4-0 hammering of Moldova.

Even though recent clashes between these sides have produced plenty of goals, we expect both to approaching this one with caution to avoid a bitter start to their Euro campaign. Romania may have cruised through the qualifiers unharmed, but their pace has dropped sharply since then and they don't appear to be skilled enough at the back to fend off Ukraine's powerful attack. Ultimately, here's hoping Dovbyk and co do enough going forward to put up three points in their opener.

Romania team news

Observing that his team clearly lacked the finishing touch in the recent warm-up matches before heading to the Euros, coach Edward Iordanescu might consider some changes in the attacking trio.

36-year-old shot-stopper Florin Nita is expected to get the nod in goal ahead of Horatiu Moldovan and Stefan Tarnovanu, following his unused status during the final friendly against the weaker Liechtenstein.

Ukraine team news

Everton defender Vitaliy Mykolenko is in doubt ahead of the opening match against Romania after sustaining an injury during the week in training, with Oleksandr Zinchenko from Arsenal potentially replacing him at left-back.

Girona's potent attacking pair Tsygankov and Dovbyk will almost certainly receive support from Chelsea winger Mykhaylo Mudryk in the final third, while Andriy Yarmolenko awaits his chance from the bench.
