Qatar will be looking to secure their second win in 2026 World Cup Qualifiers on Thursday afternoon when they welcome Uzbekistan to Doha.
Qatar have not been able to live up to the standards they set for themselves in the second qualifying round. Tintín Márquez’s side finished at the top of Group A without losing any of their six matches. The Maroons have not been able to replicate that form in the third round, with the nation winning just one of the four games played so far. They will be looking to respond this week after suffering a 4-1 defeat to Iran during the last international break.
Speaking of the October international break, it’s fair to say almost everything went the way of Uzbekistan. The White Wolves went unbeaten in their two games and didn’t concede a single goal. Srečko Katanec’s side have now avoided defeat in each of their last 20 games across all competitions and I will fancy themselves to extend that run on Thursday.

It’s been more than five months since Qatar last kept a clean sheet. They shipped two or more goals in three of their last four outings, with all four encounters producing at least four goals but I don’t expect a similar outcome on Thursday in Doha.
Meetings between Qatar and Uzebkistan have made headlines in the past mainly through their lack of entertainment. At least one side failed to score in two of the last three competitive meetings between the two nations and none of the encounters produced more than two goals.
Uzbekistan have also relied heavily on their defence in recent months, keeping a clean sheet in four of their last five matches and I fancy them to keep another one this week.
