On Tuesday afternoon, Lithuanian champions Panevezys will face off against Finish champs HJK in the Champions League First Qualifying round at Aukstaitijos Stadium Panevėžys.
Panevezys had a historic previous season as they managed to win their first league title in a pretty dominant fashion, leaving the greatest Lithuanian club, Zalgiris, 12 points behind. This season, they are once again looking like the best team in the country and are the favorite to win another title. In Europe, HJK rarely went past the 2nd Round of the CL Qualifiers but secured the Conference League and Europe League Group phase in the last three consecutive seasons.

Panevezys are in terrible form. They have lost back-to-back league games against Hegelmann and Banga and failed to score in those two matches. After a 3:0 loss against Ilves in the last game before Panevezys, coach Toni Koreakunnas spoke to the media. He was clearly unhappy, saying it was a collective failure, and noted the home team played really well today. "We had a plan, and it got complicated when the home team got a few quick goals early on," the coach added.
