The highly anticipated Gulf Cup of Nations final takes place on Saturday with Oman facing Bahrain in a match that promises to be a tightly contested affair.

Oman enters the Gulf Cup final in excellent form, having gone unbeaten in their last nine matches in the competition. Rashid Jaber’s side secured an impressive 2:1 semi-final win over Saudi Arabia, despite being reduced to ten men in the first half. 

The Reds have also been consistent in previous encounters against Bahrain, winning four of their last five meetings and remaining undefeated in their last 12 clashes with their opponents this weekend. 

Bahrain secured their place in the final with a hard-fought 1:0 win against Kuwait earlier this week. Like the Omanis, Bahrain showed plenty of courage to eventually emerge victorious with Mohamed Marhoon´s late goal enough to secure victory after Mahdi Abduljabbar´s dismissal just seven minutes into the second period.

Dragan Talajić´s side have struggled for consistency, winning just two of eight previous matches before their semi-final victory. After group stage wins Saudi Arabia and Iraq, the Warriors slipped to a surprise 2:1 defeat against Yemen. 

Billed as a 50/50 contest with bookmakers unable to split the pair, this match could go either way. However, as mentioned, Oman have a great record in this fixture, while they have proven a tough side to beat across the past year.

In the end, I expect a tight contest, with Oman tipped to eventually lift the trophy, either in 90 minutes, or after extra time or penalty shootout, given their superior form and psychological edge over Bahrain.
