Newcastle are still not good enough to compete for the major titles, but they are improved this season, as the team from St. James' Park are in contention for the Champions League spots. However, after nine straight wins in all competitions during December and January, Newcastle lost two of the last three and showed a drop in form. In the previous game, they lost 2-1 at home against Fulham. The home side had a lead after the first half, but the guests completely outplayed them in the second half and secured a big win. 

Liverpool are a big favorite to win the Premier League title this season, but Arsenal are the only team capable of competing with them. Mikel Arteta's team are currently six points behind the league leader, but with one game more played. Arsenal had some problems in a few matches after the New Year, but they won the last four games in a row, and now Arteta's team seems ready for the hunt for trophies. Last weekend, Arsenal trashed Manchester City 5-1 at home. The home team finished the match with only xG of 1.04, but their efficiency separated the sides. 

Newcastle vs Liverpool pick: Arsenal to win

The game on Wednesday will be the second leg of the EFL Cup semifinal. In the first tie, Arsenal were better, but Newcastle won 2-0. Arsenal played a few very good matches in the last two weeks, so we should expect them to dominate against Newcastle, too.
