Marseille will aim to keep up their chase for the league leaders as they host relegation-threatened Le Havre at the Stade Velodrome in Sunday’s Ligue 1 showdown.

The performance of Les Olympiens in the closing weeks of 2024 was exceptional, as they came out on top in four of five matches, including a dominant 4-0 demolition of St. Etienne in the Coupe de France, ending the year in style.

Strangely, Roberto De Zerbi's side has fared better on the road than at home, where they've picked up a weak nine points from seven games, but the upcoming clash with the relegation dwellers offers a perfect opportunity to improve their home record.

After all, Marseille can boast an excellent head-to-head relationship with Le Havre in previous years, having been victorious in each of their last seven Ligue 1 meetings with an impressive goal difference of 15-2, and they’ll be determined to reaffirm their superiority here.

From Le Havre's persepctive, they showed signs of life in November with shutouts wins over Montpellier and Nantes, but quickly returned to harsh reality, losing all four of their December assignments, including a 0-1 defeat to Stade Briochin that saw them eliminated from the Coupe de France.

The team managed by Didier Digard remains unique in Ligue 1 this season, as they are the only ones with no draws after 15 league matches, and their abysmal tally of four success and 12 losses puts them in one of the relegation positions.

In order to get out of the critical zone and continue their campaign calmly, the Dean Club must first of all have to step up their game in attack, because they are currently the worst-scorers in the division with 11 goals scored, and even worse, they haven't been able to find the net in more than half of their matches this season.

Given that Le Havre have often struggled to leave a mark on the scoreboard against Marseille in recent encounters - netting just once in the last five H2Hs in the league - combined with their frequent this season's scoring woes, we reckon Les Olympiens will live up to their favored role and keep their harmless rivals off the scoresheet.
