Old Trafford is the host for a huge Premier League contest on Sunday as Manchester United takes on Liverpool.

An entertaining Premier League contest can be usually expected at Old Trafford in a fixture that has throughout the years proven a high-scoring one. Ten of the 11 last meetings between these great rivals saw at least three goals scored, while an average of 4.36 goals was scored in those fixtures.

The Red Devils come into this contest on the back of a disappointing 2:1 defeat at Brighton last weekend. After a 1:0 opening day win against Fulham, Erik Ten Haag´s side were somewhat unfortunate to see a late equaliser chopped off by the hands of VAR. 

Contrastingly, Arne Slot has made a strong start to his tenure as Liverpool boss with the Reds picking up successive 2:0 victories against Ipswich and Brentford. Of course, a much stiffer assignment should be expected this weekend. 

Liverpool claimed a 3:0 friendly victory when these sides last met earlier in August after Man Utd enjoyed a three-game unbeaten run in this great fixture, including a 4:3 FA Cup win earlier this year. The Reds also failed to win on their most recent visit to Old Trafford, having been held to a 2:2 draw here in April. 

So rarely a dull occasion, particularly at Old Trafford, each of the last six meetings at this venue saw a minimum of three goals scored. In fact, an average of five goals were scored across those six  fixtures while ten of their last 11 encounters in Manchester also saw BTTS. 

Both teams are usually reliable in the goal markets - Nine of United's last 13 home fixtures in the EPL saw at least three goals scored, while Liverpool saw the same outcome in seven of their last ten on the road. 

A tough game to call at this early juncture of the season, I´m confident both teams will score, while over 2.5 goals should also prove a safe choice at Old Trafford.
