Finland will be hoping to kick off their 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign with a win against Malta on Friday evening to end their eight-game winless streak in recent international matches.

The Finns have been relegated to Division C after six consecutive defeats in Group 2 of the UEFA Nations League Division B. They face the Maltese, who are currently four games unbeaten in all competitions, albeit against weaker opposition, but even in recent times they have beaten the likes of Moldova and drew at home to Slovenia.

Malta - Finland Betting Tips: Finland Under 2.5 Goals Total

Finland have performed poorly in recent international matches, losing all six games in Division B of the UEFA Nations League. They failed to score in four of their six Nations League encounters and their only two goals came in home matches, failing to score once in the opposition’s territory.

The Finns’ poor performances of late are to some extent down to the fact that they have been up against superior opposition, but that should not hide the fact that they are not a particularly talented side when it comes to scoring goals. In their last 17 internationals playing away from home, Finland have not scored more than two goals, and with Malta capable of keeping teams like Greece and Slovenia below 2.5 goals, it will be difficult for Finland to score more than twice on Friday.

  1. Finland have lost 6 matches in a row and failed to score in 4 out of 6 matches, and they are also winless in the last 8 matches in all competitions (1D 7L)
  2.  Finland do not score many goals when playing away from home - they have been Under 2.5 Goals Total in their last 17 consecutive away matches
  3. Malta have kept a clean sheet in 4 of their last 5 home internationals and even Greece, who beat them 2-0, finished the game with an Under 2.5 Goals Total
