- Competition: Champions League
- Date: Wednesday, 27th November, 2024
- Kickoff: 20:00 UK / 21:00 CET
- Venue: Anfield (Liverpool)
On Wednesday evening, we have a real treat as two European juggernauts, Liverpool and Real Madrid, will face off in the fifth round of the Champions League at Anfield in Liverpool.
With the departure of coach Jurgen Klopp, a new era for Liverpool began. And even though many football pundits had doubts about Arne Slot, he reassured them, at least for now. The Reds are doing great as they are at the top of the Premier League and the Premier League as well. Right now, they are the only team that managed to win all four games in the CL, and they had a pretty tough schedule - AC Milan, Bologna, RB Leipzig, and Bayer Leverkusen.
Real Madrid had a fantastic last season, winning both La Liga and the Champions League title. Over the Summer, they managed to sign Kylian Mbappe, and everyone expected them to be invincible. However, that has not been the case, considering they are in 2nd place in La Liga, four points behind Barcelona, although with a game played less. And in the Champions League, Los Blancos were half-successful, winning six points in four rounds. That is far from expected, and they are under pressure to win points against the league's leader.
Liverpool vs Real Madrid pick: Over 2.5 goals
Liverpool are in a fantastic form, winning 13 out of 14 last games. Their offense was simply incredible, scoring at least two goals in 15 out of 18 matches in all competitions - 83.3%. So, it is fair to expect another good offensive performance, even against Real Madrid.
Real Madrid has had its ups and downs lately (result-wise), but they are constantly playing high-scoring games. Los Blancos were over 2.5 goals in the last six games in all competitions. Their offense is undoubtedly capable of scoring a lot of goals against anyone, but the defense is looking pretty bad. Yes, they had some clean sheets lately, but that was against Leganes and Osasuna. Against better teams, they weren't even remotely good, and we do not believe they can keep their net intact against in-form Liverpool.
In the previous h2h game at Anfield, we saw a super interesting match that ended 5:2 for Real Madrid. Considering all the above, we expect another high-scoring game, most likely with both teams scoring.

Liverpool team news
After a 3:2 win over Southampton, coach Arne Slot talked to the media. He was satisfied with a win and said he believes they dominated the game in all aspects. He was especially satisfied with a second half where they created numerous opportunities and eventually managed to win after being 2:1 behind.
According to English media, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Alisson, Federico Chiesa, Diogo Jota, and Harvey Elliott should remain sidelined for this match, while Konstantinos Tsimikas is listed as questionable.

Real Madrid team news
For the Liverpool game, coach Carlo Ancelotti might have three important players back - Rodrygo, Aurelien Tchouameni and Lucas Vazquez. All of them are really close to making a return, while David Alaba, Daniel Carvajal, and Eder Militao should remain sidelined with their injuries.
Also, according to credible sources, Vinicius Junior will most likely miss the Liverpool game as he sustained a hamstring injury against Leganes, which could keep him off the field until mid-December.
