A potentially vital clash takes place at Decathlon Arena on Saturday afternoon as Lille and Monaco lockhorns in Ligue 1.

Heading into the final third of the Ligue 1 season, both Lille and Monaco remain in the hunt to qualify for next season's Champions League. Placed 5th and 4th respectively, just two points separate these sides, with 12 games still to play this season. 

Lille return to home comforts after an impressive 2:0 win at Rennes last weekend helped them bounce back from a pair of home defeats against Dunkerque and Le Havre. 

At the Decathlon Arena, Bruno Génésio´s side had gone 12 games unbeaten before their surprise Coupe de France exit against Dunkerque and their 2:1 Ligue 1 reversal last weekend.

Entertainment can usually be expected at this venue with Lille rarely keeping home clean sheets. As a consequence of their defensive vulnerabilities, the hosts have seen BTTS in 13 of their last 15 home fixtures including each of their last eight games in Villeneuve d'Ascq.

Monaco come into this weekend's Ligue 1 matchup after a heartbreaking Champions League defeat against Benfica. Despite leading twice on the night, Adi Hütter´s side bowed out of the competition with a 3:3 draw on the night, insufficient after a 1:0 home reversal last week.

On the road, Les Rouge et Blanc have endured a miserable run of results this season. Monaco lost five of their last seven away fixtures, while they have won only one of their previous 11 games on their travels.

Like the home side, Hütter´s men are usually a reliable choice for goal chasers. Eight of their last 11 matches saw BTTS, including five of their last six away fixtures. 

With both teams keen to take a crucial step forward in the race for  UCL qualification, I expect a back-and-forth contest where both teams should get on the scoresheet.
