Liepāja vs RFS prediction 01.07.2024

Since their creation in 2014, Liepaja has consistently been in the upper half of the league table, even winning a title in 2015. However, this season has been disastrous and is almost certainly shaping up to be their worst ever. Currently, they are in 9th place (which leads to a relegation playout) with 15 points, just two points away from direct relegation and four points away from the safe zone. After losing their last match 5-1 to a direct contender for 8th place, Metta, Liepaja will now face the best team in the league, which could easily see them slip to the bottom of the table.

RFS were founded in 2016 but quickly became one of the two best teams in Latvia, along with Riga FC. In the last season, they managed to win the title, the second one in the last three seasons. This year looks like another two-team race for the title with them and Riga FC, and right now, after 20 rounds, RFS have a five-point advantage over their main rival. Even though Riga FC is pretty close, five points in the Virsliga is a massive advantage compared to some other more competitive leagues.

Liepaja vs RFS pick: RFS to win and cover the -1.5 AH spread

Liepaja lost back-to-back games against Metta and Tukums 2000 while allowing seven goals in total. If we look further back, we can see they were without a win in the last four matches, and they mostly faced poor teams. So, we cannot expect much against RFS.

RFS have been excellent this season with 16 wins in 20 rounds and incredible 58 scored goals - 2.9 per game. Also, as the season progresses, they only look better, winning eight of the last nine games, only failing to win against Riga FC (2:2). Additionally, they covered the -1.5 AH spread on six of those eight wins.

These teams met just a month and a half ago, with RFS winning 4:1 while totally dominating the match. Liepaja had only 33% ball possession and three goal attempts compared to RFS's 16. Moreover, RFS won five of the last six games while covering the -1.5 AH spread in all of those five wins.

Considering all the above, anything but a big win for RFS should be a massive surprise.
