Both Hungary and Switzerland will be looking to start the European Championships with a win when they face off against each other at the RheinEnergieStadion in Dortmund.
Hungary don’t have a good record when it comes to the Euros. The Tricolours failed to qualify for the tournament for ten successful editions before 2016 when they got to the round of 16 in France. Marco Rossi’s men were eliminated in the group stage at the most recent tournament, which was held in the European Union in 20220, but they have improved since then. Hungary finished the Euro qualifiers as leaders of Group G and without a single defeat in their eight games.
Switzerland meanwhile have been regular participants at this tournament in recent years. The Red Crosses reached the quarter-finals in the most recent edition - their best ever finish at the Euros. That’s surprising given the talents within the squad. In qualifying for Euro2024 Germany, Switzerland finished second in Group I, and suffered a defeat against Romania which is again disappointing.
Hungary vs Switzerland Betting Tips: Over 2.5 goals
It's been about seven years since these two nations last faced off but we were in for a real treat. The two teams shared seven goals back then, and I expect a similar result here.
Hungary finished each of their last five competitive games without a clean sheet, and bets on over 2.5 goals were won in all five encounters. The Tricolours also had one of the worst defenses in the group stage of the last Euros, conceding averagely two goals per games.
- Best Tip: Over 2.5 goals
- Hungary vs Switzerland prediction: 2-2

Hungary team news
Hungary national team head coach Marco Rossi will continue to rely on the services of Dominik Szoboszlai, who registered four goals and three assists in the qualifiers.
Szoboszlai is the nation’s captain and the joint all-time top scorer with 12 goals in 40 appearances, while Attila Fiola is currently the most experienced player in the squad (56 caps).

Switzerland team news
As for Switzerland, head coach Murat Yakin is set to be without the services of Breel Embolo, Denis Zakaria and Rubén Vargas who have been dealing with respective injuries in recent months.
Xherdan Shaqiri is the nation’s all-time top scorer with 30 goals and the former Liverpool man will be hoping to start upfront, while Granit Xhaka will be the man to watch in the middle of the park after his impressive campaign with Leverkusen.
