Both teams head into their first fixture of 2025 after squandering two-goal leads in their Premiership matches on Boxing Day. While Motherwell can take some satisfaction from their 2-2 draw against Rangers, Hearts will still be reeling after conceding twice in stoppage time to share the spoils with Ross County in Dingwall.

Hearts return to Tynecastle having looked on course for a much-needed three points against the Staggies, however goals conceded in the seventh and ninth minute of stoppage time ensured a hugely frustrating day at the office for Neil Critchley´s out-of-form side.

The home side have struggled to find much form under the English boss since his appointment earlier this year. The Jambos sit 11th in the 12-team league, having now failed to win six of their last eight league matches since the start of November.

Entertaining for the neutral, each of Hearts last four games saw BTTS and over 2.5 goals scored and I expect similar outcomes on Thursday. 

Motherwell makes the trip to Scotland´s capital having claimed a deserved point in their game against Rangers on Thursday. It could have been even better for the Well, after a hotly contested VAR decision saw a third goal chopped off for Stuart Kettlewell´s men. 

Like Hearts, high-scoring outcomes have been frequent for the visitors. Motherwell have seen at least three goals scored in ten of their last 12 games. Eight of those fixtures also saw both teams get on the scoresheet. 

Motherwell claimed a 3:1 win when these sides last met in August, and I'm confident we will see a similarly high-scoring outcome on Thursday.

Over 2.5 goals is my first port of call, while I also anticipate both teams netting in a likely entertaining battle at Tynecastle.
