After more than four months, Swedish Allsvenskan is set to restart. One of the more interesting games in the first round is between GAIS and AIK at Gamla Ullevi in Göteborg.

GAIS had a really good three seasons, securing two consecutive promotions in 2022 and 2023 and finishing sixth last year in Allsvenskan. Even the European spots were close, just six points away. This year, they opened the season with a solid performance in the Cup but finished 2nd in Group 6, behind Norrkoping. While it is still too early to tell, their goal is probably to repeat last year's success.

AIK, a 12-time Swedish champion, bounced back last season after a disappointing one in 2023 when they finished 11th. Last year, the team from Solna finished third - on a level with points with second-placed Hammarby. Still, the title wasn't close, as Malmo finished 11 points away from them. This year, the goal is the title, but that will not be an easy task considering how dominant Malmo looked last year.

GAIS vs AIK pick: Under 2.5 goals

We have very little information for this tie since this is the first round. However, in the previous two h2h games last year, we saw a 1:0 and 2:0 win for GAIS. Looking further back, these teams were under 2.5 goals in the last five h2h games.

In three games in the Cup competition, GAIS only scored goals against lower-tier teams, Karlbergs and Orebro. In the match against Norrkoping, they failed to score at home and weren't even close to doing so. Also, AIK were under 2.5 goals in all three games in the Cup. Last year, AIK averaged only 1.13 away from home, so we do not think they can offer a good offensive display.

Considering all the above, we believe that an under 2.5 goals bet seems like the best option for this Allsvenskan tie.
