Brazilian Serie A action continues on Thursday evening as Fluminense takes on Cuiaba at the famous Maracanã.

Two sides short on winning form square-off at the Estadio Jornalista Mário Filho this week, and a tight contest could be on the cards.

Hosts Fluminense are now winless in six matches after a 1:1 draw at Atletico Paranaense last weekend. Mano Menezes´s side have been held to draws in four of their last five matches. 

Recent home form has delivered similar outcomes, with each of the hosts last three matches at the Maracana finishing deadlocked.

Low-scoring outcomes have been frequent for the home side. Ten of their last 13 Serie A games, including five of their last seven at the Maracana saw under 2.5 goals scored.

Cuiaba come into Thursday's contest having endured a similarly disappointing run of results. Bernardo Franco´s side have failed to win each of their last eight matches, including a 2:1 home reversal against Bahia last week.

While wins have been in short supply, Cuiaba have shown plenty of resilience this season, particularly in recent away fixtures. Franco´s men have drawn eight of their last 14 away Serie A matches, including four of the last five.

Defensively strong on the road, Cuiaba conceded only three goals in their last six road games, suggesting a tight contest can be expected. The Dourado have seen under 2.5 goals scored in nine of their last 11 away fixtures, including each of the last six. 

Ultimately, a tight, low-scoring outcome seems likely, and while Fluminense are short-priced favourites, I fancy Cuiaba to take a point on Thursday.

Under 2.5 goals is my top tip, with a draw certainly worth a low stakes punt.
