Thursday’s Nations League Group 2 encounter sees Finland welcome the Republic of Ireland to Helsinki with both nations looking to pick up their first win since the start of the tournament.
Finland have not tasted victory in a competitive encounter since November last year when they secured back to back wins over Northern Ireland and San Marino in the EURO Qualifiers. The Eagle-owls have since been part of three competitive outings and suffered a defeat in all three games. Their most recent encounter was last month in the Nations League with Markku Kanerva’s side suffering a 2-0 defeat to England after having started the competition with a 3-0 defeat to Greece.
The Republic of Ireland last won a competitive match back in October 2023. Like their hosts, Heimir Hallgrímsson’s side prepare for Thursday’s game on the back of a three match losing streak. The Boys in Green kicked off their Nations League campaign with a 2-0 home defeat to England at home where managed just one shot on target and suffered the same fate against Greece on Matchday two.
Finland vs Ireland Betting Tips: Draw & under 2.5 goals
Wins have been very scares for both nations in recent months, with the hosts winless in their last four matches across all competitions, while the Republic of Ireland boast just one win from their last seven matches.
Both sides can’t also score goals at the moment. The Republic of Ireland enter Thursday’s game with a run of three consecutive games without scoring and Finland have failed to score in each of their last two outings.
- Best Tip: Under 2.5 goals

Ireland team news
A defeat to Finland on Thursday will see Heimir Hallgrímsson become the first Republic of Ireland manager to lose his first three games in charge.
Despite having started just one game for Premier League side Brighton this season due to an ankle injury, Evan Ferguson is in the squad and will be hoping to get some minutes on Thursday.
Other big names in the squad are Wolves defender Matt Doherty, Cardiff City forward Callum Robinson and Sunderland midfielder Alan Browne, while Luton Town defender Mark McGuinness got his first call-up.
