Everton host Football League One side Peterborough United in the third round of the FA Cup on Thursday night as both sides meet in their second competitive meeting.

The home side's form, which saw them go four games unbeaten in December, appears to be a long way off. Sean Dyche's side suffered a second successive defeat without scoring last weekend when they took on Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium. Their recent form has surprised many, including the board, given that they were unbeaten against Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City just under a fortnight ago.

Peterborough United can't boast a great run of form either. The Posh prepare for this week's trip to Goodison Park on the back of a five-match winless run; four defeats and one draw. Including the 1:0 defeat to Wrexham last time out, Dale Tonge's men have now failed to keep a clean sheet in each of their last five games and, having lost 2-1 to Everton in the previous meeting, they are unlikely to go 90 minutes without conceding this week.

Everton vs Peterborough Betting Tips: Everton to win & Over 2.5 goals

With Everton boss Sean Dyche already under pressure, the Toffees don't just need to win on Thursday, they need to win by a bigger margin. The Blues will take heart from the fact that their last win came at Goodison and they scored four times.

Peterborough United simply can't defend at the moment and have shown that in their two FA Cup encounters so far this season. They conceded twice against Newport County in the first round and couldn't stop Notts County scoring three times in the second round. Both games ended with 6 + goals.

  • Best Tip: Over 2.5 goals
  • Everton vs Peterborough prediction: 3-1

Everton team news

Everton head coach Sean Dyche will not be able to use the services of Armando Broja on Thursday against Peterborough United due to injury.

Broja was forced off after over half an hour in the defeat to Bournemouth in the Premier League last weekend, but reports suggest it was not a chronic injury.

The Toffees’ injury list also includes Tim Iroegbunam and Dwight McNeil who are nursing ankle and knee injuries, respectively.

Peterborough team news

Kwame Poku has missed the last 21 games of Peterborough United with a hamstring injury and Thursday’s game will come too soon for the winger.

Having found the back of the net eight times this season, Ricky-Jade Jones is expected to keep his place in the XI and could be supported by Bradley Ihionvien who has scored just once this season.
