Espanyol will be looking to keep their Spanish top flight survival hopes alive when they play host to Celta Vigo on Saturday evening.

The hosts worked so hard to secure their return to La Liga, going through to the play-offs after finishing fourth in the Segunda Division last season, but they have yet to make their supporters smile this season. El Glorioso are just one point off the bottom and conceded 13 goals in their last four games, all of which they lost.

Celta Vigo meanwhile started the campaign in fine style, winning their first two games 6-2 on aggregate, but it wasn't long before their form faded. The visitors managed just one win between rounds 3 and 8, while they lost four and drew one. More recently, however, Claudio Giráldez González's side have been in much better form - going unbeaten in their last four matches - and came from two goals down to draw with Barca last time out.

Espanyol vs Celta Vigo Betting Tips: Over 2.5 goals

One of the major reasons Espanyol are in the bottom two is their defence. The hosts bring a run of ten consecutive league games without a clean sheet into Saturday’s encounter and shipped seven goals in the last two games alone.

Entertainment was also the major headline in the recent meetings between Espanyol and Celta Vigo. Each of the last four meetings between the two sides produced exactly four goals and I don’t think Saturday’s game will be different.

  • Best Tip: Over 2.5 goals
  • Espanyol vs Celta Vigo prediction: 2-3

Celta Vigo team news

Luca de la Torre has been unavailable for Celta Vigo since September due to an ankle injury and Saturday’s trip to Cornellà-El Prat will come too soon for the midfielder.

Los Celestes' injury list also includes defensive midfielder Jailson, who has been out since 18 October with an adductor injury.
