Intrigue abounds as pre-tournament favourites England take on an impressive Switzerland in the third Euro 2024 quarter-final on Saturday evening. 

After an impressive group phase performance, which saw them claim five points from three games against Hungary, Scotland and Germany, Switzerland secured their place in the quarter-finals with a dominant 2:0 win against Italy last weekend. 

Dominating from start to finish, Murat Yakin´s side showed their quality to comfortably dismiss the reigning champions. 

Unbeaten in 17 of their last 18 matches since March 2023, the Swiss will surely fancy their chances against an English side yet to impress at these finals. 

On the verge of a shock round of sixteen exit, a stunning overhead kick from Real Madrid's Jude Bellingham deep in stoppage time salvaged a draw for England, before Harry Kane´s extra-time winner.

Uninspiring displays against Slovenia and Denmark in the group phase before a largely dismal performance against the Slovaks cannot be ignored. Lacking in attacking imagination, Gareth Southgate´s side have scored just four goals in four matches, including their extra-time winner. 

The Swiss, known for their disciplined defense and clinical counter-attacks have the quality to exploit England's vulnerabilities and secure a historic victory. Given their superb display against Italy, it's hard to see this Swiss side rolling over in Dusseldorf. 

Ultimately, a tight contest seems inevitable but I fancy Switzerland to at least avoid defeat over 90 minutes.
