- Competition: UEFA Nations League, League B
- Date: Sunday, 17th November, 2024
- Kickoff: 17:00 UK / 18:00 CET
- Venue: Wembley Stadium (London)
On Sunday afternoon, England and Ireland will face off in the last round of the UEFA Nations League B at Wembley Stadium in London.
England are one of the best national teams in the World and is currently #4 on the FIFA World Ranking List. However, they are constantly failing to win trophies despite coming close to it in the previous two EUROS, where they lost in the Finals. Considering that they are playing in the UEFA Nations League B, it is obvious that they weren't great in that competition. Right now, after beating Greece in the last game, they are at the top of their Group but on a level with points in 2nd place Greece.
Republic of Ireland are #63 in the FIFA World Ranking List and #28 in the European region. In recent years, they haven't had much success, as they failed to reach the last two EUROs and the last five World Cups. When it comes to the UEFA Nations League, they have played in League B since the competition began in 2018. However, they will have to play in the relegation playout to secure it, as they will finish 3rd in the Group regardless of the outcome of the last game against England.
England vs Republic of Ireland pick: England to win and cover the -1.5 AH spread
After losing in the EURO Finals to Spain, the FA sacked coach Gareth Southgate. According to many football pundits, he played too defensively despite having one of the best offenses in the World. However, with the change in the coaching staff, England started playing much better. They won four out of five games and covered the -1.5 AH spread in all wins. Under Southgate, that was rarely the case.
In five games in the UEFA Nations League, Ireland only managed to win against Finland. In games against England and Greece (twice), they lost all three games, losing by 2:0 every time. Also, away from home, Ireland have been pretty poor, losing six out of the last nine games in all competitions. Their only good games were against Malta, Gibraltar, and Finland.
In the previous h2h game, just two months ago, England won 2:0 away from home and totally dominated the game.
Considering all the above and the fact that England have a much bigger motive, we believe they will secure a comfortable win at Wembley.
