Egypt will look to continue their recent good form in all competitions this week when they welcome Cape Verde to Cairo for the opening day of their Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.
The hosts were last in action in June when they faced Burkina Faso and Botswana in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. Hossam Hassan’s men thrashed the Stallions 2-1, while they had to fight for a point against Botswana in their second game. The Pharaohs are now unbeaten in 12 competitive matches, winning seven and will be looking to continue that form on Thursday.
Cape Verde have not also been on the losing side many times in their recent competitive matches. The visitors did suffer a humiliating 4-1 defeat to Cameroon in one of their two World Cup Qualifiers in June, but that was the first loss in nine competitive outings.
Egypt vs Cape Verde Betting Tips: Draw & Under 2.5 goals
The most recent meeting between these two nations was the Africa of Nations in 2022. The meeting ended in a 2-2 draw and while I expect another draw this week, I don’t think there will be many goals.
Egypt have been very solid defensively in their recent competitive matches, with the Pharaohs conceding under one goal in each of the last three. Two of those fixtures ended with under 2.5 goals.
Cape Verde also have a defence they can count on, with Bubista’s side coming into Friday’s encounter with five clean sheets from their last six games across all competitions. Five of those games ended with under one goal and I think Friday’s game will end similarly.
