Ecuador's results are constantly improving. They appeared in the last World Cup and did pretty well, almost securing the knockout phase. In the previous Copa America, The Tricolors also did well as they reached the Quarter-Finals, where Argentinians eliminated them after a penalty shootout. They continued with fantastic results in the World Cup Qualifiers, considering they are 3rd with 19 points (three points deducted). Right now, with six rounds left, they are six points away from dropping out of the top six spots. With a possible win here, The Tricolors would make a massive step in securing another WC appearance.
Venezuela are #47 on the FIFA World Ranking List and 7th in the CONMEBOL (out of ten teams). They are still without a World Cup appearance, and we doubt they can qualify this time. They are in 8th place with 12 points from 12 matches - five points out of the desired sixth place. However, they are still only one point away from the 7th place, which leads to the WC Playoff. Still, their form is terrible, and securing that playoff will definitely be a challenge.
Ecuador vs Venezuela pick: Ecuador to win and cover the -1 AH spread
Ecuador won back-to-back games in November against Colombia (1:0) and Bolivia (4:0). If we look further back, we can see they were fantastic defensively, keeping a clean sheet in the last five games in the World Cup Qualifiers. They are generally playing great defensively and are by far the best defensive team in the competition, with only four conceded goals in 12 rounds - 0.33 per game.
Venezuela are in terrible form. They haven't won in the last eight games, and away from home, they lost four in a row with 13 allowed goals - 3.25 per game. So, expecting a positive result or even a goal vs a very good Ecuador team away from home seems unreal.
Considering what we have seen from these teams thus far, the difference in form, and a home pitch advantage, we heavily favor the hosts to win the upcoming game.

Ecuador team news
In the previous game against Colombia, Piero Hincapie received a red card and will be suspended. With him suspended, coach Beccacece could play with four players in the defensive line instead of five, as they did in the last game.
Leonardo Campana, Angelo Preciado, and Alan Minda haven't called for the NT since they are injured.
