Although Ecuador started the World Cup qualifications with three points deducted as punishment for falsifying Bryan Castillo's birth documents, Sebastian Beccacece's team is in a solid position with fourth position on the table after eight rounds. In September, Ecuador first lost 1-0 to Brazil, but after that, Beccacece's team returned on the right track with a 1-0 win at home against Peru. That win puts Ecuador in a good position to qualify for their fifth World Cup since 2002.
Paraguay didn't play at the World Cup since 2010. Since the main tournament has been expanded to 48 teams, every South American team should have a slightly better chance of qualifying, but currently, Paraguay is only 7th with nine points from eight matches. However, in September, they made a huge step forward as they collected four surprising points in the games against Uruguay and Brazil. Their attack is still weak, but Paraguay looked excellent defensively in those two matches.
Ecuador vs Paraguay pick: Under 2.5 goals
Ecuador scored only two goals in the last four matches. On the other hand, Paraguay had a 1:0 goal difference in two September games. We should expect a low-scoring affair between these two teams on Thursday in Quito.

Ecuador team news
At the press conference before the October games, Ecuador's head coach, Sebastian Beccacece, calls for patience. He said, "We are setting the bar high. We want to fight for a place in the World Cup, and once we achieve that, our aim will be to win the World Cup. But we need to have patience and understand that sometimes you need to make two sideways passes or one back-pass to move forward. Hearing boos from the fans after five minutes is not productive for our players."
Ecuador have the potential to become a great squad. Their best players, Moises Caicedo (Chelsea), Piero Hincapie (Bayer Leverkusen), and Willian Pacho (PSG), are all 22 years old. The biggest problem they have to solve is in the attack, as 34-year-old Enner Valencia is still the best striker in the squad.

Paraguay team news
Paraguay is a team without a real star. They have three players in the English Premier League (Miguel Almiron - Newcastle, Julio Enciso - Brighton, and Ramon Sosa - Nottingham Forest). However, neither of them doesn't play too much this season for their respective teams. The rest of the squad is mainly in various South American clubs.
