  • Competition: Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers
  • Date: Tuesday, 15th October, 2024
  • Kickoff: 17:00 UK / 18:00 CEST
  • Venue: Stade Alphonse Massemba-Débat (Brazzaville)

Just four days after South Africa dominated Congo at home and won 5:0, these teams are headed to Brazzaville, where they will face off again in the fourth round of the AFCON Qualifiers.

Congo are #117 on the FIFA World Ranking List and are definitely not among the best teams in Africa. They have never appeared in the World Cup and have had only one appearance in the Africa Cup of Nations back in 2015. As it stands now, it seems that will hardly change any time soon. In these Qualifiers, Congo are 3rd with three points in three rounds and are already four points away from the first two spots. So, in order to have some chance of reaching the AFCON tournament in Morocco, Congo have to win this game against favored South Africa.

South Africa are #59 on the FIFA World Ranking List and #11 in the CAF region. The popular "Bafana Bafana" appeared in four of the last six AFCONs and, in the last one, did great, finishing third. They came super close to reaching the finals, but Nigeria eliminated them after the penalty shootout. In these Qualifiers, South Africa are in a really good position considering they are on a level with points with Uganda with seven points each. With a positive result in this match, they would take a massive step in securing the appearance in the 2025 AFCON in Morocco.

Congo vs South Africa pick: South Africa to win and cover the -1 AH spread

Congo are in terrible form, as they won just once in the last nine games and have lost four out of the last five matches in all competitions. A 1:16 goal difference during that five-game stretch illustrates their poor form well.

On the other hand, South Africa are in fantastic form and undefeated in the last 11 games while facing some really good teams. In contrast to Congo, South Africa's offense has been incredible lately, scoring two or more goals in all three AFCON (Qualifiers) games.

These teams met in Gqeberha just days ago, where South Africa absolutely dominated the game and won 5:0. Considering the previous h2h game, the difference in form and overall quality, we believe that South Africa will secure a comfortable win in Brazzaville.

Congo team news

After a 5:0 loss against South Africa, coach Isaac N'Gata spoke to the media. He said they could not be satisfied with this result but said they lost to a really good team. The coach said they didn't have games to prepare and did not have a lot of time to prepare. The coach also noted that his goalkeeper wasn't fit enough, which was a big part of the problem.
