- Competition: League Two
- Date: Friday, 28th March, 2025
- Kickoff: 19:45 UK / 20:45 CET
- Venue: Colchester Community Stadium (Colchester)
On Friday evening, two Playoff contenders, Colchester and Grimsby, will face off in the 39th round of English League Two at Colchester Community Stadium in Colchester.
After four really bad years for Colchester, where they constantly battled to avoid relegation, they are doing a much better job. Right now, The U's are just outside the playoffs as they are in 8th place with 58 points from 38 rounds. They are just one point away from Grimsby and the playoff spots. However, they are in really good form, having lost just once in the last 13 games, and have every reason for optimism.
Like Colchester, Grimsby had a terrible last season. They finished 21st, just a few points above the danger zone. This year, they are doing much better, just like their next opponent. They are in seventh position with 59 points, but since they will have a pretty easy schedule in the remaining games, they should be able to secure the playoffs relatively easily. But even the direct promotion isn't far - just five points.
Colchester vs Grimsby pick: Colchester to win
Colchester were on a fantastic five-game winning streak before finally losing the match to Bradford City. However, it was only one game and was away from home against possibly the best team in the league.
Meanwhile, Grimsby lost two of the last three games. If we look further back, we can see they only won twice in the last six matches - 33%.
In the previous h2h game, Colchester won 1:0 away from home. Moreover, the U's won the last four h2h games! Considering the trend in the previous h2h games and the difference in form combined with a home-pitch advantage, we believe the U's are slightly closer to winning the upcoming match.

Colchester team news
After a 4:1 loss against Bradford City, coach Danny Cowley spoke to the media. He wasn't too disappointed and said the loss could actually be a good thing because it could help them "wake up" for the remaining eight games. "If we can learn the lessons about how we control the emotions, we will be able to play individually with more consistency and collectively with more cohesion," the coach added.
Milton Oni and Teddy Bishop, who missed the previous games with injuries, should remain sidelined.
