The new era of the Champions League with a new format is set to begin. In the first round, one of the most interesting games will be between Club Brugge and Borussia Dortmund. The game will take place at Jan Breydel Stadion in Brugge.
Club Brugge had an excellent last season. They won the league title at a super exciting end of the season, leaving Roylae Uniong SG just one point behind. They also did fine in the Conference League, reaching the Semi-Finals, where Fiorentina eliminated them on a 4:3 aggregate. This year started pretty poorly for "The Blue-Black" as they lost the Super Cup and won just one point in the first three Jupiler Pro League rounds. However, after that terrible start, Club Brugge won four in a row and made an excellent intro for the first Champions League game this season.
After finishing second in the 2021/22 and 2022/23 seasons, Borussia Dortmund had a poor last year in the Bundesliga, finishing 5th. The only reason why they secured the Champions League is because the UEFA changed the format and expanded the Group Phase by four teams. However, in contrast to the Bundesliga, the Prussians did well in the Champions League, reaching the Finals, but lost to Real Madrid 2:0. This year, Borussia Dortmund started the season well, winning seven points in the first three rounds.
Club Brugge vs Borussia Dortmund pick: Over 2.5 goals
Club Brugge are in excellent form, winning four in a row and scoring nine goals - 2.25 per game. Their offense is scoring regularly and has scored at least one goal in seven of eight games this season - 87.5%. So, scoring at home shouldn't be a problem, even against a team like Borussia Dortmund.
Borussia Dortmund opened the season great, winning three out of four games and scoring ten goals - 2.5 per game. Considering their offensive talent with Adetemi, Guirassy, Brandt, Malen, etc... we believe there aren't too many teams that can keep a clean sheet against them. Also, last season, Borussia mostly played high-scoring games and were over 2.5 goals in 62% of their Bundesliga games.
Considering both teams' excellent form and all the above, we expect a high-scoring game, most likely with both teams scoring.

During the Summer transfer window, Andreas Skov Olsen was at the center of attention as he was close to moving to Feyenoord. The coach, Nicky Hayen, said he is glad that the talented Dane stayed because he had already shown his value for Club Brugge. "Andreas, in form, is a threat to every team. After a 4:1 win over Heidenheim, coach Nuri Sahin spoke to the media. He focused on Serhou Guirassy's performance, saying he was delighted that he arrived at Dortmund. "He gives our game a different dimension. He's not just a classic centre forward. He's also a player who drops back and creates space for his teammates," the coach added.
Giovanni Reyna should be the only player who should miss the Club Brugge game. However, he will probably be only a backup option this season, and his absence shouldn't be a massive problem.
