After being pretty much constantly in the top four teams in England, Chelsea had a disastrous last season. The Blues finished 12th, not even remotely close to European spots. In fact, they were much closer to the relegation zone (ten points away) than to Europe (17). This Summer, they brought Mauricio Pochettino and made some huge transfers in order to shift the negative momentum, but for now, that didn't work. After six rounds in the Premier League, The Blues are 14th with five points, and they did not have too difficult a schedule.
Brighton are clearly on the rise. Last season, The Seagulls had their best season in the club's history, finishing 6th and securing the Europa League. They did sell some key players from the last season during the transfer window, but it seems they spent the money on the right additions, and at this moment, they look even better. Currently, they are 3rd in the Premier League, with 15 points in six rounds, just behind Manchester City and Liverpool.

A starting right full-back, Malo Gusto, received a red card in the previous game vs Aston Villa and will miss the upcoming Carabao game since the red card carries over across competition in England.
Chelsea are having big problems with injuries at the moment. Christopher Nkunku, Carney Chukwuemeka, Romeo Lavia, Reece James, Trevoh Chalobah, and Wesley Fofana are all injured and will miss the game. At the same time, Noni Madueke, Benoit Badiashile, and Marcus Bettinelli are questionable.
