Serie A struggles Cagliari return to the Unipol Domus on Sunday afternoon as they welcome Champions League hopefuls Bologna to Sardinia.

Two sides with contrasting fortunes this season square-off on Sunday in a vital contest where both will be desperate to claim three points.

Hosts Cagliari are now winless in five Serie A matches after a 1:1 draw at Lecce last weekend that leaves them just one point above the drop zone. With only 15 points collected at the half-way stage of the season, the Sardinians will surely need to improve their form in the second half of the campaign if they are to avoid an immediate return to Serie B.

At home, Claudio Ranieri´s side have picked up some form over the past couple of months. After taking just one point from their first four league matches at Unipol Domus, Gli Isolani have since enjoyed a five-game unbeaten run in front of their own support with three wins and two draws picked up since the end of October. However, it should be noted that all five of the teams faced during that unbeaten run currently sit in the bottom-half of the table. 

While Bologna have enjoyed a splendid first-half of the season, I Rossoblù have endured a tough couple of weeks coming into Sunday's matchup. After a shock 3:0 loss at Udinese, Thiago Motta ́s side were then held to a 1:1 draw against Genoa before a penalty shootout defeat at Fiorentina in the Coppa Italia. Bologna had won five of their previous six matches before their recent downturn in form. 

Currently fifth in Serie A, just a point outside of the UCL qualification places, Bologna have done their best work at home. The visitors have picked up just nine points from nine road matches this season (W1, D6, L2). 

Given Cagliari´s improved home form and Bologna´s recent dip, I fancy the Sardinians to take a point or more in a likely competitive contest where both teams can get on the scoresheet.
