Ligue 1 action returns to Stade Francis-Le Blé on Saturday as Brest takes on Marseille.

Brest vs Marseille Betting Tips - Brest or Draw

Brest face their first Ligue 1 fixture of the season still winless after a tough run of pre-season friendlies in the past month. Eric Roy´s side suffered 1:0 defeats against Laval, Newcastle and Napoli while claiming draws with Lorient (1:1) and Juventus (2:2).

Despite those results, the hosts will be confident of getting their Ligue 1 campaign underway with a positive result. PSG and Monaco were the only sides to win at this venue last season, with Brest picking up eight wins and seven draws from 17 home Ligue 1 fixtures.

With six wins and just one loss in their last 12 home matches, Brest have every chance to take something against an opponent that endured a miserable run of results in away fixtures last season.

Indeed, Marseille come into this fixture having failed to win 17 of their last 20 road games in Ligue 1 since May 2023. Wins at Clermont, Le Havre and Lorient were all the Phocaeans had to show for their away efforts last season.

Now under the charge of former Brighton boss Roberto de Zerbi, Marseille have enjoyed a decent pre-season, albeit against relatively modest opposition. De Zerbi´s side won three of four friendly fixtures against Toulon (3:0), Pau (3:0) and Augsburg (3:1).

At this early juncture of the season it´s tough to make too many clear cut calls, but we can expect a more attack-minded Marseille this season, with De Zerbi´s side usually reliable for goal chasers. However, with the Phocaeans still adjusting to life under the Italian, it may be some weeks before we see the best of this under-achieving force of French football.

With that in mind, I'm backing Brest in the double chance market this weekend. Considering their strong home record, and Marseille´s troubles on the road last season, the hosts can claim at least a draw on Friday.
