Two sides separated by just two places in the French top flight meet on Friday night as Brest welcome Auxerre to Stade Francis-Le Blé.

Brest pulled off one of the biggest upsets in the top flight last season with a third place finish. They would have entered the 2024-25 campaign hoping to build on that performance, but things have not quite worked out for them as they currently sit in eighth place. Éric Roy's side also have a big task ahead of them in the Champions League, where they lost the first leg of their playoff tie with fellow Ligue 1 side PSG 3:0 in midweek.

Meanwhile, Auxerre are preparing for Friday's game after drawing 2-2 with Toulouse in this division last weekend. The visitors have the third-worst away record in Ligue 1 this season and lost all their last four away games. However, Christophe Pélissier will take heart from the fact that his side beat Brest 3-0 the last time the two sides met.

Although Brest failed to score against Paris Saint Germain last time out, the hosts have been good in attack this season and I fancy them to score here. Éric Roy's side have also been known to produce entertaining matches at home lately. In fact, three or more goals have been scored in each of their last six games at the Stade Francis-Le Blé.

Auxerre simply can't defend at the moment, either at home or away. The visitors failed to keep a clean sheet in their last four matches, with the last two of those games resulting in 4+ goals.
