Monday will see Botosani and Otelul Galati face off at Municipal, each keen to kick off their 2024-25 Romanian SuperLiga season on a winning note.

In the last two of league seasons, Botosani have found themselves in serious conversations about relegation, particularly in the previous campaign where they managed to stave off relegation with a decisive 2-0 aggregate win against Mioveni in the relegation playoff. At the opposite end of the field is a SC Otelul side who performed much better than the Monday host, but unfortunately experienced a disappointing end to the season that saw them remain without a place on the continental stage. Although they made two bids for a European spot, the Steelworkers came up short each time, first falling in the Romanian Cup final to second-division outfit Corvinul Hunedoara in a penalty shootout, and then suffering a 0-2 aggregate loss to Universitatea Cluj in the UEFA Conference League playoff semifinals.

With a keen eye on avoiding a stumble right at the outset of the new campaign, both sides are set to adopt a cautious stance with a sharp focus on defense, potentially leading to a split of points in what could turn out to be a subdued contest. Botosani displayed a lack of finishing touch in front of goal during the final weeks of the last season, putting just two balls into the net from four outings, with each of those ending with no more than two goals.

For their part, Otelul have been unconvincing at both ends of the pitch, but three of their last four league matches have seen a maximum of two goals.
