Two sides separated by just one place in the German top flight meet this weekend as Borussia Dortmund play host to FC Union Berlin.
The hosts are still recovering from the heartbreak of the 2022-23 campaign. Dortmund had the chance to grab the Bundesliga with a win over Mainz on the last day of that season but squandered it with a 2:2 draw. Die Borussen finished fifth last season and things have got worse this season with the team outside the top half of the table.
Union Berlin are another Bundesliga side looking back on an underwhelming campaign. Only goal difference saved Die Eisernen from relegation last season and they currently sit just three places above the bottom three. Steffen Baumgart's side visited Gladbach last weekend in search of back-to-back wins for the first time this season, having beaten Hoffenheim 4-1 the week before. Dortmund booked their place in the last 16 of the Champions League with a goalless draw against Sporting in midweek, but that was a rare clean sheet for the Black and Yellows. The hosts didn't finish any of their last eleven matches without conceding and three of the last five home games in that period produced three or more goals.
The Bundesliga clashes between Dortmund and Union Berlin at the Signal Iduna Park are also known to be entertaining. The last meeting - which was in October 2023 - produced six goals and none of the last three ended with less than 3 goals.

Felix Nmecha has missed Dortmund’s last seven games through a ligament injury and Saturday’s game will come too soon for the midfielder.
The Black and Yellows will also be without the services of Ramy Bensebaini and Filippo Mané who are both dealing with muscle injuries.
Despite his penalty miss against Sporting CP, Serhou Guirassy is expected to retain his responsibilities of leading the line and the Guinean could be supported upfront by Adeyemi and Gittens.
