Last year, Bolton managed to secure the Playoffs after finishing third in the regular phase, missing the direct promotion by five points. They eventually failed to come out of the playoffs, and everyone expected they would have another good season where they would battle for promotion. However, right now, reaching the playoffs seems like their maximum, as they are in 9th place with 41 points from 27 matches - one point away from the playoff spots. Direct promotion is already 14 points away, and reaching the playoffs is a much more realistic goal.
Northampton are a team that regularly traveled between League One and League Two in the 21st century. In the last year, they had a good season, finishing 14th, not even close to the relegation zone. This season, however, they are not doing a good job and are currently sitting in 20th place with 27 points. Still, they are a comfortable six points away from the relegation zone, but their form is a reason for concern, considering they won just once in the last nine games in all competitions.
Bolton vs Northampton pick: Under 2.5 goals
Bolton haves been insistent, and it seems that poor offensive performance is the main problem. In the last five games, the Wanderers scored one or zero goals on four occasions. So, it is unreal to expect a great offensive performance against anyone.
Northampton have been fantastic for this bet, with the last five games finishing with fewer than three goals. While they are constantly struggling to score and have scored only twice during that period, their defense has improved. They kept a clean sheet in three of the last five matches!
Also, Northampton scored one or zero goals in 12 road games in all competitions, so we are not expecting much from them in this game.
Considering all the above, an under 2.5 goals bet seems like the best bet for this League One tie.

Northampton team news
The team was active during the transfer window, adding four players - Liam Shaw, Terry Taylor, Timothy Eyoma, and Martyn Waghorn. The first three already found their spots in the starting eleven, and Northampton probably started playing better defense because of them.
