A superb run of unbeaten form which had seen Bologna win five of their six previous matches came to an abrupt halt with a 3:0 defeat at Udinese last weekend. Having lost just one of their previous 19 matches across all competitions before their surprise loss in Udine, Bologna have made their best start to an Italian season in decades.

Sitting proudly in fifth place, just two points outside of the Champions League qualification places, Friday´s hosts have built their season on a particularly strong home record. At the Stadio Renato Dall'Ara, i Rossoblu have won each of their last seven matches while they have lost only one of 11 home games this season. Impressively, Thiago Motta´s men have conceded just one goal during their superb run of victories on home soil. 

Visiting Genoa come into this fixture having picked up some good results in the past couple of weeks. Unbeaten in three matches, the Griffin held both Juventus and Inter to draws on home soil while they also claimed a vital three points at Sassuolo. 

On their travels, Alberto Gillardino´s side have struggled for form. Prior to their road win at Sassuolo a fortnight ago, Genoa had taken just one point from their previous seven away Serie A fixtures.

Given their superb home form, Bologna have to be favoured to pick up the points however it is worth noting that Genoa are unbeaten in their last four away games against the on-form home side.

With that in mind, a tight contest should be expected and under 2.5 goals could prove the safest play. 16 of the last 18 meetings between these sides saw fewer than three goals scored and I expect a similarly competitive contest on Friday.
