- Competition: Football League Trophy
- Date: 17th December 2024
- Kick-off: 19:00 UTC / 20:00 CET
- Venue: Bloomfield Road
A place in the third round of the Football League Trophy will be up for grabs when Blackpool and Aston Villa Under-21s meet at Bloomfield Road on Tuesday.
Blackpool have been in fine form over the last fortnight, the only exception being their home FA Cup second-round defeat at the hands of Birmingham. Prior to that defeat, the Seasiders beat Bristol Rovers 2:0 in the league and take a run of consecutive Football League One victories into Tuesday's clash.
The form of the Aston Villa Under-21s is the complete opposite of that of their hosts. The young Villans have not won a game since 21 September when they beat Blackburn U21 at Bodymoor Heath 2-1. Josep Gombau's side go into Tuesday's game on the back of an eight-game winless streak, during which time they lost a record seven games.
Blackpool vs Aston Villa U21 Betting Tips: Over 2.5 goals
Football League Trophy games involving Blackpool are synonymous with entertainment. Three of their last four meetings produced at least three goals, and with each of the hosts' last three games also producing at least three goals, Tuesday's game should be entertaining.
That said, Aston Villa U21 don't have a defence they can rely on and bring a run of fourteen consecutive games without a clean sheet into this encounter. They conceded at least three goals in each of the last five and I don't think Tuesday's game will be much different.
- Best Tip: Over 2.5 goals
- Blackpool vs Aston Villa U21 prediction: 3-1
Blackpool team news
English professional Josh Onomah will be unavailable to Blackpool head coach Steve Bruce on Tuesday due to injury.
Onomah lasted only 40 minutes in the win over Reading in Football League One on Saturday afternoon and the midfielder is ruled out for Tuesday’s game.
The hosts’ injury list also includes Right-Back Andy Lyons who has been out since February due to a cruciate ligament injury.

Aston Villa U21 team news
Aston Villa U21 head coach Josep Gombau will be without the services of Luka Lynch for the trip to Bloomfield Road due to a suspension.
Lynch is set to serve the first of his two match ban for the red card against Wolves U21 in the league last time out and the young Villans are also without Ajani Burchall who is nursing a cruciate ligament injury.
