- Kickoff: 20:45 UK / 21:45 CET
- Venue: Estádio da Luz (Lisbon)
On Sunday evening, the 256th "O Clássico" between Benfica and Porto will take place in the Estádio da Luz in Lisbon.
Last year, Benfica finished the season without securing the title in any of their four competitions. This year, the Eagles are more or less on the same point per game average in Liga Portugal as last year when they finished second. Currently, they are in third place with 22 points in nine rounds, eight points away from first-placed Sporting, which has a 100% win rate. Meanwhile, in the Champions League, they won six points in four rounds and are currently in the playoff spots, but we cannot say we have been too impressive thus far.
Last year, Porto managed to win Taca de Portugal and had a decent run in the Champions League, reaching the 1/8 Finals. Unfortunately, they finished third in the domestic league and failed to reach the CL this year. But even in the Europa League, the popular Dragons are struggling and have won just four points in four rounds. On the positive side, Porto are doing well in the league, as they sit in 2nd place with 27 points in ten rounds, just three away from the top spot.
Benfica vs FC Porto pick: Benfica to win
These teams were pretty similar in terms of what we have seen from them this season. Constant good performances in the domestic competitions and mediocre ones at best in Europe. Still, Benfica faced much better competition in the CL and still did better, which says a lot.
We believe that this game will be super close, but the home-pitch advantage for the Eagles could be the deciding factor. Benfica won seven out of eight home games this season with an incredible 26:5 goal difference. They even had a massive 4:0 over Atletico Madrid in the Champions League. Meanwhile, FC Porto haven't been too great away from home, losing three out of seven games.
In the previous season, both teams won their home games in h2h encounters. Considering all the above, we believe the hosts are slightly closer to winning the upcoming O Clássico.

Benfica team news
After a 1:0 loss against Bayern Munich, a lot of football pundits commented on coach Bruno Lage's tactics. They all more or less agreed that the squad isn't still fully aware of what the coach is asking them to do, but also said they see a lot of potential for this team.
Alexander Bah, Leandro Barreiro, Tiago Gouveia, and Gianluca Prestianni, who missed the previous game(s) should remain sidelined with their injuries.

Porto team news
In recent days, before the Lazio game, coach Vitor Bruno spoke to the media and said that they are struggling to compete on multiple fronts and that his focus is to win in the Europa League rather than the Benfica game.
The team should have no new injuries, but Marko Grujic, Ivan Marcano, and Wendell, who missed the previous games, should remain sidelined.
