Facing their first fixture of 2025, VFB Stuttgart will be keen to bounce back to winning form after a shock 1:0 home reversal against St Pauli in their final fixture of last year.
Prior to that surprise defeat, VFB had enjoyed a decent run of form which had seen them pick up wins in four successive matches across all competitions.
Having secured a sensational second-place finish in last season's Bundesliga, Stuttgart have struggled to balance life at Europe's top table with their domestic business. Sebastian Hoeneß´s men won just three of their first ten Bundesliga games this season, but have managed to win three of their last five.
While road victories have been hard to come by, a 3:1 win at Heidenheim in their final away fixture of 2024 should give VFB confidence ahead of Saturday's trip to the WWK Arena.
Augsburg returns to Bundesliga action after an indifferent run of form at the end of 2024. Jess Thorup´s side lost three and won just one of their last five Bundesliga fixtures.
Failing to win six of their last seven league matches, the Fuggerstädter have dropped down to 13th in the division, six points above the relegation zone.
Previous encounters between these sides give plenty of optimism for Stuttgart backers this weekend. Sebastian Hoeneß´s outfit claimed victories in six of their eight most recent meetings since 2021, including a 1:0 win at this venue last season.
While by no means a banker pick given their inconsistent form in the first half of the season, I fancy Stuttgart to claim a vital away win this weekend.
