- Competition: La Liga
- Date: Saturday, 8th February 2025
- Kickoff: 15:15 UK / 16:15 CET
- Venue: Estadio San Mamés (Bilbao)
Athletic Bilbao didn't play in the Champions League since the 2014/15 season. This year, they are playing exceptionally well, so the team from Estadio San Mames is fourth in La Liga with four points more than the next team on the table, Villarreal. However, Athletic's form is not ideal as they won only two of the last seven matches in all competitions, and winning on Saturday could be seen as an imperative. Last weekend, Athletic Bilbao played 2-2 on the road against Betis. The teams were pretty even in that game, and splitting points was probably the fairest outcome.
Girona are far from last season's level, but they could fight for the Conference League position in the coming months. Girona's late form was disappointing as they were in a run of four defeats in a row. In the previous game, they broke the negative streak with a 2-1 win at home against Las Palmas. Girona surely expected an easier win, but in the end, breaking the negative run and picking up three points will restore some of Girona's confidence.
Athletic Bilbao vs Girona pick: Athletic Bilbao to win
Both teams have had problems with form lately, but Athletic is the third-best home team in La Liga this season, and playing at San Mames will put Ernesto Valverde's team in a good position to win against Girona. In the first part of the season, Girona won 2-1, but Athletic Bilbao should be much better on Saturday afternoon.

Athletic Bilbao team news
Athletic Bilbao rarely makes transfers because of their club policies, but they made it late in the winter transfer window when Valverde's team signed Maroan Sannadi from Alaves. In the first part of the season, Sannadi spent in Barakaldo, the team from the third tier, where he scored 11 goals in 20 matches. The new attacker will likely be the backup behind Gorka Guruzeta and some other players.
Nico Williams, Inigo Ruiz de Galarreta, and Unai Nunez are injured and will not play on Saturday against Athletic Bilbao.
