Coppa Italia action returns to Italy's capital on Wednesday with Roma looking to bounce back from another away defeat, this time against Como, last Sunday. Two goals conceded in stoppage time condemned i Giallorossi to a 2:0 loss, their fourth successive Serie A road defeat.
Remarkably, Roma have yet to win on their travels this season with Ranieri´s men winless across 11 away fixtures this season.
Stronger in Rome, Wednesday´s hosts have picked up victories in four of their last six matches at the Olimpico, including a 3:0 win against Braga in the Europa League last week. Roma also scored a comfortable 4:1 win against Lecce in their most recent domestic outing in Rome.
Once a force in Italian football, Serie B visitors Sampdoria make the trip to Rome having failed to win any of their last seven league fixtures. Placed 15th in Italy´s second tier, Leonardo Semplici´s side find themselves just one point above the relegation zone. While a drop down to the third level of Italian football would seem unthinkable for a side that claimed Serie A glory in the 90s, Sampdoria´s dismal run of form suggests a positve result is unlikely on Wednesday.
On the road, Samp have lost two of their last three matches, including a 5:1 thumping at Sassuolo ten days ago. Semplici´s side also suffered a 3:0 defeat at Pisa in November.
With Roma much stronger in home matches, and Sampdoria suffering in recent road contests, a comfortable home win seems likely on Wednesday.
